The Story

The Waterloo Region Museum sought a way to preserve and showcase its original railroad tracks while allowing visitors to experience this important piece of Canadian railway history up close. Rather than concealing the tracks beneath traditional flooring, the design team selected structural glass to transform the exhibit into an immersive architectural experience where visitors could safely walk directly above the historic rail line.


TCG Glass manufactured custom structural laminated glass panels that provide exceptional clarity while meeting the demanding performance requirements of a public museum. Finished with TCG’s proprietary GRIT® anti-slip walking surface, the installation delivers safe footing without significantly diminishing the transparency of the glass, allowing visitors to enjoy unobstructed views of the preserved tracks below.
