Jumbo Glass Flooring Panels

Oversized Walkable Glass Floor Panels for High-End Architectural Projects

Large-format walkable glass floor panels have become a true specialty for TCG Glass. In general, we consider any glass flooring panel over approximately 35 square feet to be “jumbo."

These oversized panels create fewer seams, cleaner sight lines, greater transparency, and a far more dramatic architectural result for luxury residential, hospitality, museum, and commercial projects.

What Is Considered a Jumbo Glass Floor Panel?

In general, we consider any walkable glass panel over approximately 35 square feet to fall into the “jumbo” category.

These larger panels often require:

  • Specialized engineering
  • Heavier laminated glass assemblies
  • Advanced handling and fabrication procedures
  • Custom crating and logistics
  • Larger tempering and lamination capabilities
  • Increased attention to deflection and structural support

Large-format glass flooring introduces challenges that many fabricators simply are not equipped to handle consistently.

This is where experience matters.

At TCG Glass, jumbo glass flooring has become one of our specialties.

Why Architects Prefer Larger Glass Floor Panels

Oversized glass floor panels create a dramatically different visual result compared to smaller segmented systems.

Benefits include:

  • Fewer seams and metal breaks
  • Cleaner sight lines
  • Greater transparency
  • More daylight transmission
  • More modern and minimal aesthetics
  • Larger uninterrupted viewing areas
  • Better visual connection between spaces

For luxury residential, hospitality, retail, and museum applications, the difference between several small panels and a few oversized panels can completely transform the finished appearance.

Why Larger Glass Floor Panels Matter

One of the biggest advantages of jumbo glass flooring panels is the ability to dramatically reduce visible seams and framing interruptions. The result is a cleaner, more modern appearance with larger uninterrupted viewing areas and greater light transmission.

Oversized walkable glass panels are often used in projects where visual impact is critical, including:

  • Walkable skylights
  • Glass bridges
  • Museum flooring
  • Luxury residential projects
  • Commercial feature floors
  • Roof deck glazing
  • Stair landings
  • Retail and hospitality spaces

Large-format structural glass flooring also requires significantly more fabrication experience, engineering coordination, handling, and logistics planning than smaller standard panels. Many glass companies simply are not equipped to consistently produce oversized laminated walkable glass systems.

At TCG Glass, jumbo glass flooring has become one of our specialties.

Engineered for Structural Performance

Every jumbo glass flooring project is engineered specifically for the application.

Factors that influence the final glass build-up include:

  • Span
  • Support conditions
  • Live loads
  • Dead loads
  • Deflection requirements
  • Slip resistance requirements
  • Indoor vs. exterior exposure
  • Thermal performance requirements
  • Structural redundancy
  • Framing system design

We work with project engineers and design teams to develop custom laminated walkable glass assemblies appropriate for the specific project conditions.

Unlike standard decorative glass, walkable structural glass requires careful consideration of safety, redundancy, deflection, and long-term durability.

Why TCG Glass?

At TCG Glass, we focus heavily on custom architectural glass projects that many traditional glass companies avoid.

Our team has extensive experience with:

  • Jumbo laminated glass
  • Structural walkable glass
  • Oversized glass fabrication
  • Anti-slip glass flooring
  • Large-format skylights
  • Complex custom engineering
  • Difficult logistics and crating
  • One-off custom architectural projects

We understand that oversized glass flooring projects require both technical expertise and realistic project management.

TCG GLASS FLOORING CASE STUDY

Creating a Walkable Glass System for the 9/11 Museum - New York, NY

Bass Pro Shop logo

Walkable Glass Project Goals:

The design team on this project was looking for a transparent glass flooring product that would allow visitors to see clearly through the glass flooring panels to view the foundation/structure of the original Twin Towers when visiting the museum. They selected our TCG Crystal Clear GlassGrit™ glass flooring because it provides the highest slip resistance rating available in the market while also providing the most transparent glass flooring anywhere. It is why so many museums select our glass flooring products. We are honored to have our glass flooring panels included on the 9/11 Museum! (We also have our GlassSculpt™ panels installed on the Freedom Tower Observation Deck.)

Glass Flooring Safety Specifications:

At TCG Glass, we test our glass flooring products more than any other architectural glass manufacturer and we exceed the most stringent requirements in the world! More than 3 million people visit the 9/11 Museum each year, so this glass flooring project required walkable glass that met the highest safety and durability standards.  This glass flooring system met and exceeded the following standards:

Anti-Slip Glass Flooring

The TCG GlassFrit™ anti-slip surface walking glass flooring surface exceeds international slip resistance requirements:

        •       SA HB 198:2014 (Australian)

        •       British Specification 7976-2

Strength and Durability

Our glass flooring systems and glass walkways are all laminated and manufactured to meet/exceed the following standards:

  • ASTM C1048, standard specification for heat-treated glass-kind HS, kind FT coated and uncoated.
  • ASTM C1172-91, standard application for laminated architectural flat glass.
  • ASTM C1036, Type 1-transparent, quality Q3-glazing select quality
  • ASCE Tab 4.1 and IBC, Table 1607.1
  • ASTM 2751-11, Standard Practice for the Design and Performance of Supported Glass Walkways.
