The Story

In a modern fitness facility, movement is constant. Thousands of people use the stairs every week, making durability and safety just as important as appearance.

For this Gold’s Gym location, the design team wanted the main staircase to become an architectural focal point rather than simply a means of moving between floors. TCG Glass manufactured custom Privacy™ Frost structural glass stair treads that brighten the open interior while creating a distinctive contemporary aesthetic.

Each tread was engineered specifically for the project using tempered, laminated architectural glass and finished with TCG’s GlassGrit® anti-slip walking surface. The translucent Privacy™ Frost finish softly diffuses light through every step, giving the staircase a clean, floating appearance while concealing the supporting steel structure beneath.

The completed installation demonstrates how structural glass can transform a functional staircase into one of the most memorable architectural features within a commercial space—combining safety, engineering, and modern design into a solution built to perform for years of continuous public use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use glass stair treads instead of traditional materials?

Structural glass stair treads create a bright, open aesthetic that cannot be achieved with concrete, wood, or metal. They allow natural and artificial light to pass through the staircase while serving as a durable, load-bearing walking surface.

Are glass stair treads safe?
Yes. TCG Glass stair treads are manufactured from tempered, laminated architectural glass and engineered for the specific project. The walking surface incorporates GlassGrit® anti-slip technology to provide excellent traction, even in busy commercial environments.

What is Privacy Frost glass?
Privacy Frost is a translucent glass finish that diffuses light while obscuring visibility through the glass. It provides privacy without sacrificing brightness, making it an excellent choice for stair treads, flooring, and other architectural applications.

Can structural glass stairs be used in high-traffic commercial buildings?
Absolutely. Structural glass stair systems are commonly specified for commercial buildings, fitness centers, hotels, offices, universities, and public spaces where both durability and contemporary design are important.

Are the stair treads custom manufactured?
Yes. Every TCG Glass stair tread is custom fabricated to match the project’s dimensions, structural requirements, edge details, and finish specifications. Each system is engineered specifically for its intended application.

Can the glass be customized?
Yes. Glass stair treads can be produced in clear, low-iron, colored, or privacy glass, with a variety of anti-slip surfaces, edge finishes, and custom sizes to complement virtually any architectural design.
