Each structural laminated glass panel incorporates TCG’s proprietary GRIT® anti-slip walking surface for safe footing, while a custom texture on the underside of the glass provides modesty and visual screening for travelers below. The Story

Edmonton International Airport sought an architectural flooring solution that would create a memorable passenger experience while meeting the rigorous performance demands of a major international airport. The design called for expansive structural glass flooring that would seamlessly integrate into the terminal while remaining safe, durable, and visually distinctive.


TCG Glass manufactured custom structural laminated glass panels featuring a proprietary GRIT® anti-slip walking surface to provide confident footing in a busy public environment. To enhance privacy for the spaces below, each panel was also produced with a custom texture on the underside of the glass, subtly diffusing views without sacrificing the bright, open feel of the terminal.


Beyond aesthetics, the flooring system required exceptional engineering. In addition to supporting continuous pedestrian traffic, the glass was specifically designed to withstand the concentrated loads of the airport’s electric people mover carts, ensuring long-term structural performance in one of the facility’s busiest circulation areas.
