What Sets Dichroic Glass from TCG Glass Apart?

Jan 26, 2024

We’ve Talked about What Our Dichroic Glass Is…Let’s Get into What It’s Not

Dichroic glass is a dynamic, beautiful, viewer-interactive form of architectural glass. In previous articles, we’ve talked about what dichroic glass is, the history of this product, and the various benefits of using this type of glass. We’ve even shown some of our stunning installations using this high-quality product. But let’s take a look now at why dichroic glass from TCG is so unique and how it differentiates itself from other types of dichroic glass on the market.

4 Things TCG Dichroic Glass Is Not

Whether you’re an artist, designer, architect, commercial business owner, or homeowner who’s interested in dichroic glass, it’s important to know exactly what you’re getting with that architectural glass product.

If you’re working with TCG Glass, here’s what you’re not getting.

1.     Not a Cheap, Low-Quality Glass Product

Our dichroic glass is created in solid sheets using a multimillion-dollar metal deposition chamber. This creates our monolithic DichroGlass™.

Because our glass manufacturing company has access to this highly sophisticated and technical piece of equipment, the dichroic glass we produce is extremely high quality and durable.

Suited to any commercial or residential need, it’s available in both laminated and tempered glass sheets. TCG Glass is the only company currently tempering dichroic glass.

2.     Not a Glass Product Using Laminated Film

There are lots of glass products on the market today calling themselves dichroic glass. Many of these, though, are actually just standard glass panels with a colored laminated film attached.

Using a product with laminated film presents several problematic issues, both immediately and potentially down the line:

  • Laminate can produce irregular colors streaks within the panel.
  • Laminated film can have unsightly ripples.
  • Over time, the film can eventually delaminate.
  • There’s the potential for lamination failure during the installation process.

With true dichroic glass (glass created using that metal deposition chamber), you’re investing in a higher-quality product. Yes, the cost tends to be higher upfront, but the longevity, durability, and aesthetics of that product mean it represents better value over time.

3.     Not Limited to Small Sizes

As of this writing, TCG Glass is the only company manufacturing nonlaminated dichroic glass in large panel sizes.

TCG can currently accommodate monolithic dichroic glass panels up to one hundred forty-four inches by ninety-six inches, or twelve feet by eight feet.

This product is available in three kinds of large panels:

  • Glass flooring
  • Vertical
  • Horizontal

Whatever your project requirements, these larger sizes mean you’re less likely to have to use a lower-quality laminated product just to complete your vision or design.

4.     Not a One-Size-Fits-All Glass Solution

If you have a very specific vision and plan in mind for your dichroic glass, TCG is the perfect solution for you. TCG Glass is the only glass manufacturer currently:

  • Tempering their dichroic glass sheets.
  • Offering different thicknesses of annealed or tempered dichroic glass.
  • Providing large-sheet monolithic dichroic glass.
  • Laminating DichroGlass™ to our cast glass or other products for a truly one-of-a-kind product.
